Oxymetholone is a synthetic anabolic steroid developed in 1960 by Syntex Pharmaceuticals.

Its main clinical applications include the treatment of osteoporosis and anemia, as well as the muscle growth by stimulating malnourished or underdeveloped patients.

The drug has been approved for human use by the FDA.

Later, non-steroidal drugs such as Epogen were developed and tested to be more effective in treating anemia and osteoporosis without the side effects of oxymetholone.

The drug remains available despite this and eventually found a new use in the treatment of HIV wasting syndrome.

Most commonly presented as a 50 mg tablet, oxymetholone is theone of the strongest androgenic steroids available. Likewise, it also poses the greatest risk of steroid side effects.

Despite a very low binding affinity with the androgen receptor, oxymetholone is very effective in promoting extended gains in body mass, primarily by dramatically improving protein synthesis.

For this reason, it is often used by bodybuilders and athletes.

Many athletes also use oxymetholone as a method of protection for joints under heavy loads.

Due to the high water retention and according to the experience of users of this medicine, it lubricates the joints and therefore helps them to protect themselves against injury.

Oxymetholone is considered by bodybuilders to have the most anabolic effect of any oral steroid currently available.

Due to its very high efficiency as an anabolic agent, bodybuilders usually combine oxymetholone with other anabolic steroids.

As oxymetholone is already a very powerful androgenic steroid, many athletes only use it for the first 3 or 4 weeks of treatment.

This allows time for intramuscularly injected products such as nandrolone (deca-durabolin), testosterone (sustanon) and boldenone to take effect and then reach peak blood levels.
